Our top 5 things to do in Broken Bow / Hochatown this Winter

  • Posted on

We love visiting Broken Bow and Beavers Bend State Park year-round. There is something peaceful about visiting during the slow season. The weather can be cold, but it can also be crisp and inspiring. These are our top recommendations for things to do if you visit during these quiet, cooler months.

Our top 5 things to do in Broken Bow / Hochatown this winter include:

  1. Go bowling at Gutter Chaos. Be sure to get there early to get a lane. Afterward, grab some lunch and a S’MORES kit from The Eat Out and roast some S’MORES over the outside fire pit.
  2. Visit one of the newly opened restaurants in the area! Grab breakfast tacos from Hocha-rritos and coffee from Hocha Cup Coffee, to-go lunch from the Hachi Hachi food truck, or have a nice sit-down dinner at the Mountain Fork Cantina & Grill. [check websites for hours]
  3. Take a winter hike along the Lakeview Lodge Trail. This 3.5-mile loop is a moderately challenging route, and it takes an average of 1 h 16 min to complete. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime—Park at the new Beavers Bend Lodge.
  4. Create your route, grab a hold and make a move at Crag Climb Beavers Bend. Indoor rock climbing is ideal for those cold days when you feel like being active but do not want to be outside. Check Facebook for updated hours during the slow season.
  5. Go Fly Fishing! The guides at Beavers Bend Fly Shop or Beavers Bend Fly Fishing Guide Service would love to take you out. February is the perfect time to fish for Walleye in the Broken Bow Reservoir because they migrate from the upper Mountain Fork River into the lake.
